On May 17, 2018, the U.S. Department of State, with implementing partner Battelle, will host Mission Mosquito, a Global Health Security and International Public Communication Forum in Washington D.C.

Mosquitoes spread more disease to humans than any other animal. The Mission Mosquito Forum looks to encourage innovation in public engagement strategies to spur action to combat Zika and other mosquito and vector-borne infectious disease.

The forum will bring together a broad range of international experts and communicators including public health officials from Zika-impacted countries, scientists, media professionals, international health officials, U.S. government, citizen science practitioners, film and cultural leaders and a cross section of partners from the private sector.

Who should come?

Designed as an action-oriented gathering, Mission Mosquito aims to create new connections, share successes (and hard lessons learned), and inspire creative collaborations on countering the health threat from the mosquito. Anyone who can be bitten can be a partner to scale response to vector-borne disease.

Mission Mosquito is part of U.S. support for the Global Health Security Agenda goals to build international preparedness to respond to infectious disease threats. The Forum is hosted in cooperation with Battelle, the private non-profit international science and technology enterprise that explores emerging challenges through research and development. This Forum is part of a broad international public diplomacy initiative aimed at widening the network of partners that can carry accurate science-based information into communities.

Location: U.S. Institute of Peace, 2301 Constitution Ave NW, Washington, DC 20037
