Care and Support for Children Affected by the Zika Virus and Their Families: Introduction to the Essential Component Framework
The Essential Component Framework for Care and Support provides an initial step to organize a more holistic vision of what is considered to be the “essential components” for designing and implementing a wide range of care and support components for families affected by Zika. The design layout attempts to provide multiple views as to the how the different proposed “essential components” appear and link across the life-course and are being undertaken by different sectors and actors (in a wide range of settings). Content for each matrix is based on existing recommendations by the CDC and PAHO/WHO (for the early stages), along with building on what we know from the fields of early childhood development, early intervention and family support (for those with children with disabilities), and social protection.
