Learning from Zika: A synthesis of lessons learned for future public health emergencies

This report (in English and Spanish) synthesizes high-level lessons learned and effective practices from USAID’s Zika response, drawn from collective experiences expressed by implementing partners. In total, the report highlights 17 insights, the majority of which are grouped by theme:

  1. Capacity strengthening
  2. Coordination and collaboration
  3. Designing for and anticipating gender and youth issues
  4. Integration of Zika within health and other services
  5. Knowledge management
  6. Monitoring, evaluation, and learning in a rapid response setting 

This is intended to be a practical document that can be quickly and succinctly reviewed to inform the design and implementation of future emergency responses.
